Covid-19: Gujarat adds 1,145 cases, 17 deaths in 24 hrs; tally at 82,087, toll at 2,839

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Wednesday recorded 1,145 positive cases, taking the total to 82,087. The state also recorded deaths of 17 positive patients, taking the death toll to 2,839.
The deaths included seven in Surat, four in Ahmedabad, three in Rajkot, and one each in Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar and Patan. The new cases include 238 from Surat, 163 from Ahmedabad, 115 from Vadodara, and 96 from Rajkot.
With the update, the total cases in Ahmedabad and Surat are 29,575 and 17,562 respectively. The two districts account for 57.4% of the total cases of the state. Likewise, the districts have recorded 1,670 and 568 deaths respectively, which consists of 78.8% of the total deaths in Gujarat.
On Wednesday, the state completed five months of the first case of Covid-19 registered on March 19. In 153 days, the state recorded an average 536 daily positive cases, 18.5 deaths, and 424 discharges.
A total of 1,120 patients got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 64,830. The discharges include 324 from Surat, 180 from Ahmedabad, 79 from Gir Somnath, and 67 from Rajkot.
Out of 82,087 total Covid-19 positive patients in Gujarat, 14,418 (17.6%) are active, 64,830 (79%) are discharged, and 2,839 (3.4%) are dead.
Gujarat carried out 63,031 tests in 24 hours – the highest daily tests so far – taking the total to 14.78 lakh. The state health department claimed that the state carried out 970 tests per day per million population. Gujarat has 5.15 lakh persons under quarantine as on Wednesday evening, including 777 persons in facility quarantine.
