The next round of applications for the Ontario Automotive Modernization Program, which funds manufacturing upgrades in the province’s auto industry, is open.
The CDN$10-million O-AMP provides auto parts companies with funding to invest in new technologies and support innovation in Ontario's automotive supply chains.
Funding covers up to 50 percent of eligible project costs up to CDN$100,000, with recipient companies contributing the remainder through their own resources. The fund is designed to help suppliers in the auto industry implement new manufacturing technology that makes production more efficient.
Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Minister Vic Fedeli says the money helps position the province “for success and bring jobs to Ontario as the global economy recovers.”
Ontario's auto sector has been front and center in the fight against COVID-19, with many companies retooling their operations to make emergency supplies, Fedeli said in a statement. “The auto industry, a mainstay of advanced manufacturing and innovation, will continue to be instrumental as we implement our made-in-Ontario plan for renewal, growth and economic recovery."
The Ontario Automotive Modernization Program is part of the government's Driving Prosperity auto plan.
Ontario is the only place in North America where five major automakers build vehicles — Fiat Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Toyota — as well as truck manufacturer Hino.
