A manhunt is underway after three children were pulled from a home during a dramatic early morning siege in Perth.

More than ten police officers and armed tactical responders surrounded the home on Vanda Place in Maddington at about 5am on Wednesday, Perth Now reported.

The officers then reportedly negotiated with the occupants to remove the children and a woman from the house. A man, who is believed to be armed, fled the scene.

The woman is in police custody and is set to be charged, while the three children are in the care of a relative.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning when police were notified of an altercation involving a firearm at about 1am.

Police then tried to stop the alleged culprit, who was behind the wheel of a hired Kia Sorento.

Officers lost sight of the car during the short pursuit but later found it at the home on Vanda Place. It's understood the residents are known to the alleged offender.

Armadale inspector Glen Willers said they were careful when approaching the property.

'We called in our negotiators to try make contact with the people in the house,' he said.

'We knew there were children inside the house, so through that negotiation they came out of the house without any incidents ... we're very patient and methodical with these things.

'Unfortunately the offender is not here but we'll regroup now and come up with some strategies to locate him.'

Insp Willers is confident the alleged offender, who is known to police, will be found today.

A WA Police spokesperson encouraged locals to avoid the area.

'Members of the public are advised to avoid Westfield Street, between Helm Street and Sheoak Road in Maddington due to an ongoing police incident,' the spokesperson said.

'More details will be provided when available.'
