Punjab: Deputy jail superintendent, two warders injured as inmates attack inspecting team in Patiala

PATIALA: Deputy jail superintendent of the Patiala Central Jail, along with two other jail staffers were injured as inmates of barrack number 6 attacked them while they were inspecting their unit, looking for mobile phones and other banned substances.
The incident took place hours after the district and sessions judge inspected the jail premises on Wednesday morning.
Late Wednesday evening, when jail superintendent Varun Sharma along with a team of Jail staffers was conducting the inspection of various barracks, the inmates at least nine inmates lodged in Barrack number 6 attacked them.
According to the sources, as the inspecting team entered barrack number 6 the inmates attacked them with bricks during which Varun Sharma along with jail warders Sartaj Singh and Sikander Singh sustained head injuries. They were immediately rushed to the government Rajindra Hospital.
Station house officer of Tirupuri police station, Harvinder Singh, said a case against nine inmates was being registered under various sections of the law.
