Hyderabad: Two members of attention diversion gang arrested

HYDERABAD: Dundigal police along with CCS Balanagar team in Hyderabad arrested two thieves and recovered Rs 2.9 lakh cash and 41 debit cards from their possession.
The accused are G Satwik Reddy, son of Vijayender Reddy, 18, helper in a private company at Church Gagillapur in Dundigal and Y Joseph, 36, son of Anthony Reddy, 36, helper in a private company at Church Gagillapur, Dundigal.
On Tuesday evening Dundigal crime team along with CCS Balanagar police conducted vehicle checking at a bank near Gandimysamma area. Police team noticed the duo coming towards them on a bike and tried to stop them. The accused tried to escape from the place but we intercepted them and found multiple debit cards in their possession, Dundigal inspector A Venkatesham said.
During the interrogation, the duo confessed to have duped several people in the guise of helping them withdraw cash at ATM centres. "The accused target illiterate people and gullible people who do not know how to withdraw cash from ATM. In the guise of helping the victims, the accused note down their PIN and swap the debit card with another debit card of the same bank in their possession. After the victim leaves the ATM centre, the accused withdraw cash using the stolen debit card," the inspector said.
During the past two years, the accused committed nine offences in Dundigal and two offences in Jeedimetla, defrauding the victims for Rs 2.8 lakh. Cops suspect that several victims might not have approached police.
Police recovered Rs 2.97 lakh cash, a cell phone, a bike and 41 debit cards of various banks from the possession of the accused.
