Door to Door health check up at Indravan complex in Malad east MUMBAI: BMC officials have been pleasantly surprised with the welcoming response from housing colonies in the ongoing second sero survey in three city wards. Slum pockets, which had welcomed civic teams during the first survey in July, are "lukewarm" in their response this time.
The first survey had found 57% sero-positivity in slum pockets and 16% in non-slum areas. "We had found reluctance in housing colonies then, but it isn't so this time," said an official. Better awareness could have changed attitudes, the official said. Residents in slum pockets are not as keen as they feel the "first survey was enough." "Moreover, Ganpati festivities may delay our sample collection," said a public health official. Like the first survey, the second one is being carried out in R North (Dahisar), M West (Chembur) and F North (Sion, GTB Nagar, Matunga). The survey is a joint effort between BMC, TIFR and Niti Aayog.
