Coronavirus LIVE Updates: The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting is underway, and the re-opening of hotels and weekly markets is on its agenda.

A total of 1,092 people have died due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The country's death toll has now risen to 52,889 and a spike of 64,000+ cases has pushed the total case tally to 27.6 lakh. The World Health Organisation (WHO) said "changes in viruses happen all the time", after a new Covid-19 mutation was discovered in three cases in Malaysia, deemed to be 10 times more infectious. "Identifying a change does not automatically mean Covid-19 has changed. "You need to look to see if this means the virus is behaving differently," the body said, adding that the world was still a long way from Herd Immunity. "There is no question in my mind we're a long way from it, and will remain a long way from it in the absence of an effective vaccine. Hoping for herd immunity is not a solution."

US Hands Over Second Shipment of 100 Ventilators to India in Covid-19 Assistance | The US on Wednesday handed over to India 100 ventilators, as part of President Donald Trump's offer of assistance to New Delhi in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The ventilators are manufactured in the US and are compact, easy to deploy and provide India with flexibility in treating patients affected by the virus, the US embassy said in a statement. The US government, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), in coordination with the Indian government and the Indian Red Cross Society, donated the second shipment of 100 new, state-of-the-art ventilators to assist India in its fight against Covid-19, the statement said.

Amit Shah Admitted to AIIMS Days After Testing Covid-19 Negative | Union Home Minister Amit Shah was admitted to AIIMS late on Monday night. The government hospital said the Home Minister has been "complaining of fatigue and body ache for last three-four days" and has been admitted for “post-Covid-19 care”. “He has tested negative for Covid-19. He is comfortable and is continuing his work from hospital," AIIMS said in the statement.

Rajasthan Governor Voices Concern Over Rising Covid-19 Cases in State | Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has voiced concern over the growing Covid-19 cases in the state, and asked Health Minister Raghu Sharma to chalk out a new strategy to contain the spead of the disease. Mishra discussed the steps being taken to prevent the pandemic spread in the state with Sharma, a statement from Raj Bhawan said. Noting that 1,347 people had tested positive in the state, while 11 people died due to the disease on Tuesday, he said it was a matter of great concern.

Total Covid-19 Deaths Reach 2,638 in UP; Active Cases Reducing Since Aug 16 | The number of deaths due to Covid-19 reached 2,638 in Uttar Pradesh today with the state's case fatality rate (CFR) coming down to 1.57 per cent, a senior official said. A total of 2,638 people have died in the state due to coronavirus infection, Additional Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said. The CFR of the state has come down to 1.57 per cent which is below the national percentage of 1.97, he said, adding that the recovery rate of the state presently was 68.78.
