Stringer a chance to return for Bombers

Essendon are contemplating rushing forward Jake Stringer back for Saturday night's Dreamtime in Darwin clash against Richmond.

The 26-year-old has not played since he suffered a syndesmosis injury during the Bombers' win over Collingwood in round five.

Stringer was best on ground that night, kicking three goals to bring his tally to 10 goals in four games.

His absence has been felt with Essendon winning just two of their next seven games. Stringer led the club's goalkicking until Sunday when Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti kicked a goal against the Saints.

Essendon's head of medical David Rundle said Stringer was on track for a possible return depending on how he went at training on Thursday.

"Jake's making really good progress. He had a solid hitout on the weekend, running and football skills," Rundle said.

"He'll integrate with the main group this week. We'll monitor him closely during main skills, see how we moves and how he pulls up before making any decision on his availability to play."

Rundle also told the club website that Cale Hooker and Orazio Fantasia would remain on the sidelines for that match and he gave no indication as to whether Joe Daniher would play in a scratch match on the weekend.

There has been speculation Daniher could return via the senior side although that would be a surprise as he has not played since midway through last year as he attempts to overcome a groin injury.

The Bombers have just one win - over the winless Adelaide - and a draw to show from their past six matches and sit 11th on the ladder.
