Gurgaon: The
civic body is all set to upload the data on collection and disposal of
Covid-19 waste generated at homes and
quarantine centres on
Covid19bmw, its
app.
The decision came after the urban local bodies (ULB) department directed corporations, including
MCG, to follow the directives of the
Supreme Court.
In a communication sent to all civic bodies of the state, the government said that it is important to ensure that they register themselves on the app and update the data on the
biomedical waste app regularly. Moreover, the corporations have also been directed to educate
residents on the segregation of the waste through
newspapers,
hoardings,
banners and other activities.
“The National Green Tribunal (
NGT) had mandated that isolation centres and houses that are generating Covid waste should register themselves on the app created by
CPCB. This is meant to track the Covid waste being generated. However, there has not been 100% compliance of its order, and now the
ULB department has again instructed civic bodies to ensure that all Covid waste generators register themselves on the app,” said Vishesh Gaur, director of Biotic, the firm that has been assigned the task to dispose of the Covid waste of Gurgaon.
The city’s civic body has also been asked to hand over all biomedical waste generated in the city to the common biomedical waste treatment facility for disposal.
The corporations have also been asked to comply with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules-2016 without any flaws, and ensure 100% collection and scientific disposal of the
municipal solid waste.
Gurgaon generated 2,418 kg of Covid waste in March; 15,076 kg in April; 33,502 kg in May; 1,14,127 kg in June; 1,37,275 kg in July and 57,784 kg in August till date. The city is now generating around three tonnes of Covid waste every day.
