City Traffic police, collects fine amount from traffic violatorsBENGALURU: Despite having fewer traffic police personnel on roads, thanks to the pandemic, Bengaluru traffic police, through contactless enforcement, have booked a whopping 17.5 lakh cases against traffic offenders since March 22 and collected fines amounting to Rs 96 crore.
In a press release, joint commissioner of police BR Ravikantegowda said, his personnel used cameras installed at traffic junctions, pictures uploaded by public on social media including Public Eye, Facebook and Twitter to identify violators and issue fine receipts.
“With the help of cameras installed at traffic signals, we booked 11 auto drivers on charges of refusing to ply,” Ravikantegowda told TOI. “We shall increase contactless enforcement in the near future. In many places, when traffic police stop violators, the flow of traffic gets disturbed. Such issues will be addressed by using contactless enforcement.”
Since March 22, a day before the nationwide lockdown was enforced, traffic police booked 17,49,610 offenders and collected Rs 96,26, 74,100 in all.
