It’s just been a bit over six months since the Tata Nexon EV has been launched and the all-electric SUV has achieved its first milestone. The homegrown carmaker has just announced that the 1000th Nexon has been rolled out from its Pune plant.
This is good news as the Nexon EV has managed to hit this milestone despite being sold in a limited number of outlets. Another reason for the Nexon EV’s success is its decent driving range. India is still lagging behind in charging infrastructure and an EV with a longer range means lesser anxiety. And the Nexon EV, with its 312km ARAI-claimed range, means you can do a non-stop Pune-Mumbai trip, without stopping to charge .
It’s also bucket loads of fun to drive as its electric motor develops 129PS of power and 245Nm of torque right from the word go. The electric motor draws power from a 30.2kWh battery pack, which is placed below the floor. Read our first drive of the Tata Nexon EV right here.
The Tata Nexon EV is priced from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). You can also buy the Nexon EV under the recently introduced subscription program. Currently, its only rivals in the Indian market are the Hyundai Kona Electric and the MG ZS EV, which are bigger SUVs and priced much higher than the Tata. It will soon face competition from the Mahindra XUV300 Electric.
Tata Motors Electric Mobility division will soon expand its lineup with the Altroz EV. It is expected to use the same powertrain as the Nexon EV. There could also be an all-electric derivative of the upcoming Tata HBX micro SUV as well.
