Mother is 'blown away' by the kindness of two strangers who secretly paid her restaurant bill after discovering her son, 2, is battling leukemia - and she has a special message for the couple

  • A couple and their daughter asked Ms Fryc why Eden had a feeding tube
  • The mother-of-four chatted with the family about Eden's cancer for a short while
  • The family left before Ms Fryc, and paid her $40 bill on their way out of the cafe

A mother whose young son has leukemia was blown away by two kind strangers who discreetly footed their bill at a restaurant.

Sarah-Jane Fryc, 28, was dining at Pancakes On The Rocks in Northmead, western Sydney, last Friday with her two-year-old son Eden and a friend.

Ms Fryc was approached by a couple and their daughter who asked why Eden - who was diagnosed with leukemia in July 2019 - had a feeding tube and not much hair.

The mother-of-four chatted with the family about Eden's cancer, and told them they have spent the last year at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Ms Fryc said the family left about 15 minutes before them, but when her friend went to the counter to pay, staff told her their $40 bill had already been settled.

'The lovely people we were talking to had paid for our food,' she told news.com.au.

'It really made my day and make me feel a lot better especially after being away from home for so long – it was such a good way to leave on a good note.'

Ms Fryc said she is sharing the heartwarming story in the hopes the couple will see it as she didn't get a chance to thank them because they had already left.

'It really pulled at the heart strings because we have had a lot going on this past year and it's made me realise there's still lovely people out there who don't do things like this as often anymore,' she said.

The Fryc family are from Woy Woy on the Central Coast, but were forced to relocate to Sydney for the last year while Eden received treatment.

They were put up at Ronald McDonald House and the Leukaemia Foundation units, but on Friday 'finally' were able to return home.

'It really made my day and make me feel a lot better especially after being away from home for so long – it was such a good way to leave on a good note,' Ms Fryc said.

'After a sh*tty year it was really what I needed.'

Eden is currently in remission and his health is improving.
