- Two powerful and shallow undersea earthquakes shook western Indonesia on Wednesday, causing panic but no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
- The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres under the sea. It was centered in Bengkulu province on Sumatra island, 144.5 kilometres west-southwest of Bengkulu city, USGS said. It also was felt in several provinces on the island.
- Similar earthquake with 6.9 magnitude jolted the province six minutes later, but no tsunami warning was issued for the relative shallow quakes.
U.S., China agree to increase airline flights between them to 8 per week
According to a statement released by the US Department of Transportation, "The Department of Transportation issued an Order that to allow the four Chinese airlines currently performing scheduled passenger services to the United States to increase their services to eight weekly round-trip flights. This aggregate level of service is equivalent to the total number of flights now permitted by the Chinese aviation authorities for U.S. carriers."

Mali president resigns after detention by military, deepening crisis
- Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita resigned on Tuesday and dissolved parliament hours after mutinying soldiers detained him at gunpoint, plunging a country already facing a jihadist insurgency and mass protests deeper into crisis.
- Looking tired and wearing a surgical mask, Keita resigned in a brief address broadcast on state television after troops seized him along with Prime Minister Boubou Cisse and other top officials.

- US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (local time) said that he is not ready to hold talks with China as "What China did to this country and the world was unthinkable", Sputnik reported.

Global coronavirus tally touches 22 million
- The number of coronavirus cases worldwide has touched 22 million, according to the data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University.
- While the total number of coronavirus cases globally stands at 21,987,207, as many as 777,018 people have succumbed to the disease.

Mumbai Crime Branch summons rapper Badshah on August 20 in fake followers case
- Mumbai Crime Branch's Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) summoned rapper Badshah on August 20 in connection with social media fake followers racket case
- On July 7, Rapper Badshah visited the Crime Branch office in Mumbai for questioning in connection with the case.
- Allegedly, one of the songs of Badshah -- "Pagal hai" -- got 75 million views in a day but Google dismissed this claim. The Crime Branch wants to verify this claim made by Badshah.
- The Home Minister has earlier directed the Mumbai Police to act tough on the fake followers' case.
Reliance Retail acquires majority stake in Netmeds
- Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced that its subsidiary Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL) has acquired a majority equity stake in Vitalic Health Pvt. Ltd. ("Vitalic") and its subsidiaries collectively known as 'Netmeds' for a cash consideration of approximately Rs 620 crores.
- The investment represents 60 per cent holding in the equity share capital of Vitalic and 100 per cent direct equity ownership of its subsidiaries- Tresara Health Private Limited, Netmeds Market Place Limited and Dadha Pharma Distribution Pvt Limited, according to a release by RIL on Tuesday.
