Muharram processions scrapped across Jharkhand

RANCHI: The central Muharram committee on Tuesday announced that Muharram this year will be observed without the procession, display of arms and playing of drums and music across the state in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The announcement came after a meeting with all the stakeholders on Tuesday.
The committee asked devotees to visit Imambara and Karbala individually to take part in the rituals and asked them to strictly follow government guidelines including social distancing norms. The committee also decided to issue guidelines related to the function later on.
One of the khalifas, Jamshed Ali, said, “When all religious places are shut due to the pandemic, it will not be proper to take out processions.”
General secretary of the committee Akil ul Rehman asked people to ensure harmony during the rituals and added that restraints should be exercised at all cost. The members also said that a delegation will soon meet chief minister Hemant Soren and the Ranchi deputy commissioner to discuss ways to ensure peace and harmony during the functions.
