'I'm considering, considering it,' Newman told the Herald Sun

'I had someone ask me from an official position, who is part of the Liberal government. Never rule out anything.'

The Geelong great ran for mayor in 2018 but was forced to withdraw from the race as he was overseas at the US Masters at the time.

He earlier told co-host Don Scott on his You Cannot Be Serious podcast he had not made a decision on running for the job.

But he said last time he ran he had five things he was interested in changing.

'One was graffiti, one was homelessness, one was speed limits, one was security and the other one was bicycle, city and the traffic,' the 74-year-old said.
