COIMBATORE: Members of Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded immediate action against a group that posted derogatory comments about CPI state committee office in Chennai and a senior party leader and freedom fighter R Nallakannu on social media platforms.
The party cadre protested in front of the government and corporation offices in the district and neighbouring Tirupur district by holding black flags.
“We have filed multiple complaints with the police department and have mentioned even the ID of the account. But, till date, no action was taken on our complaints even though it has been over a month since the first complaint was lodged. Officials had not even taken steps to remove the post from social media platforms,” said J James, west zone secretary of CPI, Coimbatore.
He said they staged protests in front of the government offices to gain attention of the state government. They demanded that officials take immediate action on their complaints and take necessary steps to remove all derogatory posts about the party and its leaders.
