Sehdev BhatiGREATER NOIDA: Dreaded gangster Sunder Bhati’s brother, Sehdev Bhati, was arrested on Monday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 45 lakh from a Surajpur-based transporter in June.
According to a complaint filed by the transporter, Vipin Yadav, the accused had sent two men to his office in Lotus Park area on June 26 a day after giving him death threats on the phone. They allegedly brandished a gun and told Yadav to pay up for protection from gangster Anil Bhati and his uncle, Sehdev Bhati.
Pradeep Tripathi, the SHO of Surajpur said an FIR was initially lodged against Anil Bhati and the two men - Lokesh Bhati and Nagesh Choudhary - who had gone to threaten the transporter, under IPC sections 386 (extortion) and 506 (criminal Intimidation). “However, after the arrest of Lokesh and Nagesh in July, it was revealed that Sehdev was behind the extortion bid and he had only sent his men to threaten the victim. Since then we were searching for him,” he said.
Tripathi added that on Monday, they received a tip-off that the accused had come to his native village, Ghangola, and was leaving from there. “We followed him from his hometown to his temporary residence in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar where we finally got hold of him without any resistance from his side. He was later produced before a magistrate in the evening and was sent to judicial custody,” the SHO said.
Police in their press release stated that Sehdev has 18 cases of serious crimes lodged against him, including rioting with deadly weapons, murder, attempt to murder, abduction, criminal conspiracy, causing disappearance of evidence, disobeying a court order, extortion etc.
