Representative imagePUNE: The civic body on Monday reduced the number of micro-containment zones to 66 from 75.
With this, around 6 sqkm area is now under restrictions, which is less than 3% of the total area in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits.’
Of the 15 PMC ward offices, the maximum number of micro-containment zones (11) are now under the Hadapsar ward office, followed by Kothrud, Shivajinagar and Ahmednagar road (10 each). The number of such zones in the remaining 11 ward offices ranges from one to four.
“Local wad office authorities and police will remove barricades from the areas where such zones have been reduced,” civic chief Vikram Kumar said in his order.
Though the PMC reduced the number of micro-containment zones, it did not announce any change in the restrictions.
A PMC official said the new zones have been designed on the basis of Covid-19 cases and casualties during the past fortnight. The areas reporting more cases and deaths have been added to the list of the new micro-containment zone list. Kothrud and Bavdhan have been witnessing a spurt in Covid-19 cases.
The PMC had brought down the number of micro-containment zones to 75 from 87 on August 1. The PMC limits had 109 such zones till July 23.
