Stay alert over infiltration: CM to Dhubri residents

GUWAHATI: Chief minister Sarbanada Sonowal on Monday asked residents of Dhubri district, which borders Bangladesh, to be more vigilant against infiltration from the neighbouring country while inaugurating the Dhubri and Golakganj police stations.
“In his appeal to the people, the chief minister informed that the both central and state governments have taken steps to seal the Indo-Bangla border for stopping infiltration of foreigners and modern technology has been used for strict surveillance over the riverine border areas. He also called on the people residing in the border areas in the district to be vigilant against illegal influx,” the chief minister’s office said.
The two new buildings of Dhubri and Golakganj police stations in Dhubri district have been constructed under Mission for Overall Improvement for Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme and Sonowal hoped that the newly-built police stations would facilitate better service delivery by police. While Dhubri police station was established in 1906, Golakganj police station was set up in 1907.
Sonowal said the state government has been striving to make police more people friendly, taking inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a smart police force. “In parallel to the change in attitude of police towards public, the people have also changed their perception of police which has resulted in registering of more cases in police stations across the state as citizens come to police without any apprehension,” Sonowal said.
He informed that Assam was the only state in the country to take special initiative to upgrade police infrastructure and for that reason, the state’s police force could become one of the best performing in the country. Urging police personnel to dedicatedly work for protecting life and property of state’s citizens and upholding the democratic values, Sonowal called for maintaining the sanctity of the police uniform while controlling the criminal elements with an iron hand.
He also appreciated the role played by 70,000 Assam Police personnel in managing the Covid-19 situation in the state.
