There was a fierce uproar over the construction of the boundary wall on Monday in the Vishwa Bharati (Shanti Niketan) University campus in Birbhum, West Bengal. The miscreants were opposing the construction of the boundary wall at Pausha Mela ground. The miscreants caused considerable damage to the university's assets. Following the violence, the university administration has decided to temporarily close the campus.

Police said 'the protesters demolished the two gates of the university and threw away the construction material laid to build a wall around the open ground'. The annual Pausha Mela is held here in December, with which the construction of the boundary wall is being done on the Pausha Mela ground. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Chancellor (Chancellor) of this central university.

Let us tell you that Pausha Mela is a prestigious annual cultural event, which started more than a century ago, and this fair attracts thousands of people including foreign tourists. The fair is a major source of income for many people, including locals and traders. Protesters have been demonstrating against boundary wall construction since Saturday. However, Vice-Chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty has refused to stop the construction.

Regarding the rejection of the wall, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that "I do not want any construction that destroys the beauty of Visva-Bharati." The governor called me and asked me to intervene in the matter. I have asked the police to call a meeting of the District Magistrate in which students, local people, and vice-chancellors can express their views. I would urge the Vice-Chancellor not to do anything that would destroy the legacy of Tagore and Bengal. " The Vice-Chancellor has not yet commented on this matter.

University administration demands strict action

The university administration has demanded that 'those who were involved in the violence should be arrested immediately. Not only this, but strict action should also be taken against them. So that such an incident does not happen again in the future. The university administration said that the loss should be compensated only by the miscreants on the basis of calculations done through MHRD or any agency.

Governor talked to Chief Minister

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said that the law and order situation in Visva-Bharati is worrisome. He tweeted that he spoke to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the matter. He assured that the administration will take all possible steps to restore law and order.
