Facebook hit the target on Monday with news from the Wall Street Journal. Congress and the Marxist Communist Party (CPI-M) demanded a joint parliamentary committee inquiry into the news that Facebook does not impose rules of hate speeches on some BJP leaders.

However, the social media giant insisted that its policies are implemented globally without any political engagement.

Congress said that "democracy is unstable" in India by Facebook "not taking action" against hate-filled material and that it is imposing different rules in different countries is 'absolutely unacceptable'.

Amidst the controversy, senior Facebook executive officer in India, Aankhi Das, lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police that she was receiving "death threats" after the news and was deliberately maligned. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Chairman of Parliament's Standing Committee on Information Technology, said that the committee would like to know the Facebook side about the report. After that, a committee of Delhi Legislative Assembly also said that it will summon the officials of Facebook, including Das, for complaints of deliberate inaction to curb hateful material in India.
