A crime scene has been set up at the sports ground where forensic police are examining the cause of the blaze.

'Initial inquiries suggest it is not suspicious,' a police statement read.

Photos from the scene on Tuesday morning show a body covered in blue tarpaulin being removed from the remains of the campervan by police and rescue firefighters.

It's understood the woman had been living in the parked vehicle at the sports oval for some time.

It's understood she was known to local welfare services but had not been asked to move on from the oval.

'She had been there for some time, to the point people in the area knew her, knew about her and were quite friendly with her,' Nepean Detective Inspector Jason Pietruszka told reporters.
