Four people died and property worth over Rs 3 crore was destroyed or damaged. The 73 may also be booked under the Goonda Act, which entails preventive detention for a year.
“These rioters played a vital role in the violence,” a senior police officer said. “They not only instigated the mob, but also led them in setting vehicles on fire and attacking police.”
An investigating officer said the 73 were identified with the help of CCTV footage and other scientific evidence. “Many of them were seen outside KG Halli and DJ Halli police stations. Others took part in vandalising the houses of MLA Akhanda Srinivasamurthy and his nephew Naveen P,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, a senior officer said a team will visit Kerala to nab fugitive suspects. “Around 30 men, identified among prime suspects, have been traced to different parts of Kerala. A team will bring them back soon,” the officer said.
Curfew extended till Aug 21
City police commissioner Kamal Pant on Monday extended the prohibitory orders clamped under CrPC 144 in KG Halli and DJ Halli until the morning of August 21. Prohibitory orders have been in place since the night of the violence.
