Beed shopkeepers to be tested to detect 'super spreaders'
- Beed district in Maharashtra is starting rapid antigen tests of shopkeepers, vegetable vendors, milk sellers and petrol pump employees from Tuesday to detect COVID-19 'super spreaders', an official said.
- Beed Collector Rahul Rekhawar issued an order on Monday for the conduction of these tests in Kej, Ambejogai, Majalgaon, Ashti and Parli towns of the district.
- The rapid antigen tests would be conducted for three days from Tuesday, the official from the district administration said.
J&K: Tributes offered to CRPF personnel killed in terrorist attack
- The wreath-laying ceremony of two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Baramulla on August 17 was held in Budgam on Tuesday.
- The jawans, driver Khurshid and Constable Luvkush, hailed from Bihar, according to RR Bhatnagar, an adviser to Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who was also present to pay tributes to the jawans who had made the supreme sacrifice.

- Three executive producers are out at 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' after accusations of sexual misconduct and fostering a poor work environment.
- According to Fox News, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed to the outlet on Monday that executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman "have parted ways with" the show. It appears that Mary Connelly, Andy Lassner and Derek Westervelt will remain as producers alongside comedian and TV show host Ellen DeGeneres.

- Michelle Obama, former first lady, has warned Americans to “vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it” during her speech at the Democratic National Convention.
- Obama emphasised the need for all Americans to vote, making reference to the voters who stayed home in 2016 and helped deliver Donald Trump the win that year, even as he lost the popular vote.
- She described Biden as a “profoundly decent man” who “knows what it takes to rescue an economy, beat back a pandemic and lead our country.”
Biden, Harris maintain double-digit lead over Trump, Pence: Poll
- Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris are maintaining a double-digit lead in the country over incumbent President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, as the presidential election draws closer, says a Washington Post-ABC News poll.
- As the Democrats kicked off their National Convention on Monday, Biden and Harris lead Trump and Pence by 53 per cent to 41 per cent among registered voters, The Washington Post reported.
Terrorist arrested by security forces in J-K's Shopian
- A newly recruited terrorist has been arrested by security forces from Maldera area of Shopian District, informed Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday.

- A 70-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore, the police said.
- The accused used to run a wholesale grocery shop. He was arrested and taken to Bavani sub-jail early today morning.
- The investigation into the matter is underway.
Last farewell to Pandit Jasraj in New Jersey
- Scores of mourners gathered at the Highland Park Funeral Home in New Jersey on Monday to pay their last respects to music maestro Pandit Jasraj. The Indian classical vocalist died of a cardiac arrest in his New Jersey residence.
- Randhir Jaiswal, Consul General New York along with Deputy Consul General Shatrughan Sinha paid a visit to the legend in New Jersey. "As our nation mourns the death of the legend, we are making sure to assist the family to take back the mortal remains to India, so that he can be put to rest in the best possible manner," Jaiswal told ANI.
Oracle enters race to buy TikTok's U.S. operations: FT
- Oracle Corp has held preliminary talks with TikTok's Chinese owner, ByteDance, and was seriously considering buying the app's operations in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the Financial Times newspaper reported on Monday, citing people briefed about the matter.
- Reuters reported earlier this month that Twitter Inc had approached ByteDance to express interest in acquiring the U.S. operations of TikTok, while Microsoft Corp was still the favourite to clinch a deal in the race.

Singapore announces USD 5.8 billion to boost COVID-19 hit economy
- Singapore has announced USD 5.8 billion to extend a wage subsidy programme to next March, as most sectors continue to struggle amid the coronavirus pandemic, reported South China Morning Post.
- The Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat believe that this announcement will help the companies to retain their workers.
- South China Morning Post reported that unemployment here stands at 2.9 per cent, up from 2.4 per cent in the January-March period and not far off the 3.4 per cent peak during the Global Financial Crisis.
NIA arrests 2 men for circulating fake Indian currency notes
- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in circulation Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).
- Two accused identified as Md. Baitullah and Md. Mukhtar were arrested in connection with a case which pertains to a conspiracy hatched by a network of individuals for production, circulation and smuggling of High-Quality Counterfeit Indian Paper Currency Notes, NIA said.

- An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale struck the Southeastern region of Manila, Phillippines, on Tuesday early morning.

HP University postpones undergraduate final-semester exam slated for Aug 18
- Himachal Pradesh University has postponed undergraduate final-semester exam slated for Tuesday after the Himachal Pradesh High Court's order that the Varsity may not proceed with the relevant schedule.
- Earlier on Monday, the Himachal Pradesh High Court stayed the final term exams in the state, mandated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) until the orders of the Supreme Court is pronounced in the matter.
One more dies in Palghar fire incident
- One more person died in the fire incident at an organic chemicals factory in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Monday.
- Earlier, ANI reported that one person was killed and at least three were injured after fire broke out at the factory in Boisar municipality.
- Palghar Collector Kailas Shinde had earlier said that there were 20 people working at the factory at the time of the incident.

- Canadian Finance Minister Bill Morneau is stepping down from his cabinet role and as the parliamentarian for a Toronto riding after weeks of scrutiny for his role in a charity scandal that has plagued the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
- Trudeau and Morneau have incurred backlash after multiple investigative pieces revealed close ties between their families and the WE Charity, which was awarded a USD 670-million sole-source contract to administer a government-sponsored student volunteer program.
- Morneau has faced increasing criticism following his admission that he accepted expense paid trips from the WE Charity and amid a disconcerting fiscal picture resultant from the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

- Rachakonda Police on Monday launched a free ambulance service called "Life Line Services".
- Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said that the "Life Line Services" will be free of cost and will carry both COVID and non-COVID patients.
- "This is a 24x7 service. Any citizens can avail the service by calling on COVID Control No 9490617234, 9490617111 to avail the services," he said.
Manduadih railway station in UP renamed as Banaras
Manduadih Railway Station has been renamed as "Banaras", said Uttar Pradesh Minister of State with independent charge and MLA from Varanasi North Ravindra Jaiswal, adding that the Union Home Minister's Office has given the confirmation.
