RAMGARH: Eight people, including a senior district functionary of the Ajsu Party, were arrested for vandalising and blocking the way of employees of a private industry unit at Hesla village near here.
SDPO Anuj Oraon said Ajsu Party functionary, Nirmal Mahto, was arrested with seven others based on a written complaint filed against them at the Ramgarh town police station.
The Ajsu-P leader and several others had sat on a dharna outside the gates of Jharkhand Ispat Company Limited’s plant in Hesla on August 15 after one of the plant’s employees, Bhudua Oraon, died at a hospital. Oraon fell unconscious during work and died while undergoing treatment. The protesters were demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation for Budhua’s family members.
The protest turned violent when the agitators allegedly stormed into the plant and damaged its machinery. They also blocked the entry of 500 plant workers, the company’s management wrote in its complaint to the police.
