BSF has got a new DG after about five months. The command of this force has been handed over to 84-batch IPS Rakesh Asthana of Gujarat cadre, who is close to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In such a situation, they face many challenges along the Pakistan and Bangladesh border. The first challenge is how to control the border infiltration between these two countries.
250-300 terrorists are ready to arrive in Kashmir at the launching pad located within the Pakistani border. Second, it has become common practice for Pakistan to violate the ceasefire policy. Last year, Pakistan broke the ceasefire 3168 times in Kashmir. If you look at this year's figure, he has done so more than two thousand times so far. On the other hand, despite all efforts along the Bangladesh border, drug trafficking is not stopping. There, the BSF catches a small bulk of drugs every day.
Rakesh Asthana is considered a fast-tracked officer. His counterpart other IPS officers say he has been close to Modi and Shah in Gujarat since the beginning. They have also found strong postings. Asthana arrested Lalu Prasad Yadav, the fodder scam accused and head of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, in 1997. During that time he was working as SP in CBI.
Even after that, he has held many important positions. The current central government brought him to the CBI. Sources reveal that he was at number two in the CBI, but could not make up his track with director Alok Verma. As a result, both had to come out of the CBI. Both officers were accused of many kinds of charges.
Explain that the current director of CBI RP Shukla will retire in January 2021. At that time, Rakesh Asthana may once again join the race for the post of CBI Director. If Asthana is made CBI Chief, he will serve in this post for two years. If he completes his tenure while still in BSF, he will retire in July 2021.
The biggest challenge for Asthana will be to check infiltration. The reason is that terrorists from Pakistan border infiltrate into Kashmir, while smugglers from Bangladesh border try to enter West Bengal. Animal trafficking is the biggest issue here. BSF jawans roam like cows followed by cows.
The first free them from the clutches of smugglers and then they remain on the BOP of the BSF until the administration makes their bid. Only the BSF jawans have to make arrangements for their food and drink. However, on the other hand, the Pakistani army is violating a ceasefire daily to infiltrate terrorists into India. This year, 367 cases have been reported in January, 366 in February, 411 in March, 387 in April, 382 in May and 114 cases in June.
