HYDERABAD: Stating that it is not inclined to disturb the serious flood relief activities being undertaken by the state of Telangana during the ongoing flood situation, a bench of chief justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy refused to take up the matter as a suo motu plea.
Advocate Chikkudu Prabhakar made a mention before the bench on Monday morning asking it to take up the matter on its own. The lives of people particularly the Adivasis living on the banks and vicinity of Godavari, Pranahitha, Penuganga rivers along with the lives of the people living in Warangal are adversely affected. Proper food and potable water has become scarce there in view of the sudden floods, the counsel said.
The bench however told the counsel that they are also watching the situation and the state government is doing all it can. Army was called, its helicopters pressed into service to rescue stranded people. The chief minister himself is monitoring the situation and asked all the officials and staff to be alert 24 hours. Hence we do not agree with the argument or apprehension that the state government is irresponsible, the bench said and declined to take up the case on its own. What more do you expect a government to do?, the bench asked the counsel who raised the issue. State is monitoring the situation. We need not do it, the bench said.
