NEW DELHI: Interacting with the newly elected members of school management committee (SMC), deputy CM and education minister Manish Sisodia asked them to "think out of the box for the development of schools".
"If four children of your school are physically weak, then ask a nearby milkman to provide milk for them so that they can get proper nutrition. If online education of 10 children is interrupted due to lack of mobile, then think of making arrangements with public assistance," Sisodia suggested.
SMC members are mandated body under the Right to Education Act 2009, which include 12 parents, a social worker, MLA nominee, teachers and principal.
Sisodia interacted with the members at RSKV No. 1 at Mandawali in Patparganj and RSBV at West Vinod Nagar.
"SMC has a big contribution in achieving 98% result in Delhi government schools. In 2015, the principal used to say that for every job one has to depend on the government. But now, we have given full authority to our principals to take calls," said Sisodia.
He added that every school in itself was a government headed by principal, and the SMC members were its cabinet. "It is our endeavour that SMC takes up the entire responsibility of the school so that the government can limit its role in stating policy and providing buildings and other resources," Sisodia said.
The minister also cited examples referring to the contribution made by SMC members in the running of the government schools in Delhi. "In many schools, with public contribution, SMC members got RO system installed. When there was a shortage of a particular subject teacher, alternative arrangements were made. If a school did not have an economics teacher, a university professor took classes for a few days," he said.
