The child’s father, Salman, who sells vegetables in the area, told police that his son was lying on a bed near the air-cooler around 11am when he came in contact with it. While Salman was outside the house, the other family members were busy in household chores when the incident happened. “The one-year-old came in contact with the metal body of the cooler while sleeping. The incident caused him severe burns,” said Rajveer Singh, the SHO of Rabupura police station.
Hearing the toddler’s cries, family members rushed inside and took him to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed only a few minutes into the treatment. “He was later cremated by the family members. No complaint was filed in the case,” said Singh.
Police claimed that the accident occurred probably after the cooler picked up the earthing current. “The family had immediately stopped the power supply of the air cooler. Meanwhile, we have also asked them to call an electrician and get their power connection checked for earthing,” he said.
