A pile of rubbish which contained a recycling box from Warrington has been found dumped on moorland in Snowdonia.

Electrician Gethin Clwyd was cycling between Ysbyty Ifan and Llan Ffestiniog when he discovered the pile of abandoned waste on Thursday.

He said: "It was dumped on moorland which is looked after by the National Trust. It is a site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation, and is within the Snowdonia National Park.

"There were a load of gas canisters, a medical oxygen supply canister, tyres and - somewhat ironically - a recycling box belonging to Warrington County Council.

"It's the arrogance that someone has neatly piled it up, but expects someone else to clear up their rubbish.

"I wonder how much it costs the local tax payer for someone from Conwy Council to come along in a van with a couple of men to clear it up -probably a few hundred pounds I would imagine, as they have to be documented."

Mr Clwyd, who lives in Pentrefoelas, cycles all over North Wales and said there has been a huge rise in rubbish along the roads in recent years.

"I've noticed cans and plastic cups are on the side of the road all the time, also fast food containers," he said.

"Really bad spots are where there are temporary traffic lights. People seem to think whilst waiting for the green light that it's an ideal opportunity to clear their cars of rubbish."
