Covid-19: Residential areas focus of virus test as slums report a dip in Navi Mumbai

NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai has a mixed story of virus infection and spread, with slums reporting just about 20 Covid-19 positive cases, in an average, as the total cases on Monday clocked 21,140.
NMMC commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, has focused attention to gaothans and residential pockets that are now trending maximum number of daily cases. The 34 vans with antigen testing kits of NMMC have started doing spot antigen tests where cases have been reported.
Those 50 plus and comorbid have been urged to undergo the antigen tests. The buildings and domains that have reported cases are top priority for the spot tests. Negative antigen tests of any 50 plus comorbid person will be sent for the RtPCR tests, the commissioner said.
The 50 plus age group tests for those having health issues is not mandatory but the civic body has insisted people to get the test done. Most fatalities are also among this age with health issues, The civic body noted.
The Monday daily positive cases dipped to 240 from the high of 419 reported last on August 15 (Saturday , last week). Sunday was 351 cases. The cases need to drop for which the tests have been spread out , the civic body said .
