The new lockdown guidelines have come into force in Assam since 16 August. To bring normal life back into gear and gradually unlock the economy, the Sarbananda Sonowal-led state government has issued new guidelines that take effect from 5 am on August 16 to 9:30 pm on August 31.


As per the new unlock-guidelines, the Assam government has allowed inter-district movement of passenger vehicles between Monday and Friday. Earlier, people were allowed on Mondays and Tuesdays. As per the guidelines, vehicles have been allowed to operate with 50 percent capacity.

The movement of persons from 9:30 am to 5 pm is completely prohibited. The order states that the movement of any person on weekends is strictly prohibited.

As per the government order, more than 50 persons will be prohibited in social/political/sports / entertainment/educational/ educational and other large gatherings.

Following the norms issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state government has decided that cinema halls, swimming pools, auditoriums, assembly halls, amusement parks, theaters will remain closed.

No activity is allowed in the container zone and entry and exit from such zones are strictly prohibited.

Individuals over 65 years of age and children below 10 years of age are advised to stay indoors except for health reasons.

On August 16, Health Minister Assam Himanta Vishwa Sharma said that the total cases of COVID-19 have reached 76,875 in Assam. According to the minister, seven more coronavirus patients died in the last 24 hours, bringing the total figure to 189.
