Humayun Kabir, a 40-year-old Trinamool Congress (TMC) activist, died in the Shamsherganj area of the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. He died on Saturday night due to an explosion while making home bombs on the roof of the house. His ten-year-old son is also injured in the incident. However, the party has claimed that none of its workers are involved in the incident.
Sub-divisional police officer (Jangipur) Prasenjit Banerjee said, "Preliminary investigation shows that Kabir was making bombs on the roof of his house." A bomb accidentally fell and they were badly injured. His minor son was also injured. We have started an investigation but no arrests have been made yet. '
Local people told the police that Kabir worked as a laborer in a bidi factory. He said he heard a loud explosion around 9 o'clock Saturday night. They reached Kabir's house and found him soaked in blood. Kachinur Beva, the mother of the deceased, said, "After having dinner, Kabir went to the terrace. Exploded within minutes. '
Officials at Shamsherganj police station said that Kabir had also been arrested earlier and had a criminal record. He alleged that the family removed the bomb-making material to erase the evidence. The mother of the deceased has denied the allegations. He said, "My son was not involved in any criminal activity. We suspect that someone threw a bomb at our house. '
In Murshidabad, TMC spokesperson Gautam Ghosh said, "Nobody in our party is involved in this incident." We have requested the police to conduct an unbiased investigation into the matter. 'Earlier on July 3, two people were killed while making bombs in cotton situated next to Shamsherganj.
