AutoNation Inc.'s latest public comments criticizing us for an editorial cartoon published July 27 did not mention the written apology we issued to the company. As we told CEO Mike Jackson in a letter dated July 29, it was never our intention to mock the illness of Cheryl Miller; the intent was to express the sense of resignation over the company's ongoing efforts to fill the CEO role. We regret that AutoNation associates interpreted it any other way, and we apologize for failing to make our point clear.
