Monsoon to be active over next 2 weeks: India Meteorological Department
NEW DELHI: The southwest monsoon continues to gain momentum across India after a weak July, and will be active in most parts of the country over the next two weeks, the weather office said, cheering policy makers and farmers.
The strengthening of the vital weather system has brought much-needed rainfall in fertile plains of northern India. Total rainfall since June 1 is now 4% above normal, a vast improvement from a deficit of 2% early this month. The India Meteorological Department expects the trend to continue.
"Southwest monsoon is very likely to be in an active phase with above-normal rainfall activity over central India, northern parts of south peninsular India and most parts of plains of northwest India," it said.
