Gorakhpur: A 45-year-old lawyer was shot dead allegedly by his relatives over a land dispute in Shivpur village, Gagha area of Gorakhpur district on Sunday morning.
The deceased lawyer was identified as Rajeshwar Pandey. Tewari used to practise at Gola Tehsil, said police.
Police officials said Rajeshwar’s house is just opposite to the house of his relative Prem Kumar Pandey aka Chanki Pandey.
Rajeshwar’s father and Chanki’s grandfather are real brothers. The two families had a dispute over a piece of land since a long time.
According to reports, Rajeshwar had an altercation with Chanki’s grandfather, and later with Chanki over the land on Sunday morning. Soon after, someone fired at Rajeshwar from a close quarter. He was being rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to injuries on the way.
“Rajeshwar’s family filed a written complaint with us after which we registered a case against five persons. Two of the accused have been arrested and search is on to nab the rest,” said SSP Sunil Kumar Gupta.
