Vasco: In order to avoid a mad rush to purchase various items useful for ‘matoli’ during the Ganesh festival, the Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Nandadeep Raut has advised people to purchase the required material in advance, without waiting for the last minute.

Speaking to this daily, Raut said, “MMC has decided to give permission to the vendors in advance to sell the required material useful for matoli during Ganesh celebration. The vendors will be allowed to sit at designated places in order to avoid crowding. The municipal authorities will see that social distancing is strictly maintained by people during the purchase of matoli

material.”

“I appeal to the people not to create a rush for purchase of matoli items. The municipal authorities will see that the people are able to purchase all the matoli items without any hassle, by issuing permission to the vendors to sell their wares ahead of the Ganesh festival,” said Raut.

On the issue of encroachments by vegetable vendors at the new vegetable market premises, Raut said, “Strict action will be initiated against those who encroach upon roads. We have observed that a majority of the vendors are encroaching upon the road and even narrowing the entryway to the vegetable market.”

He also stated that the municipal authorities will initiate action against people who are into casual vending of various items including vegetables from their homes or outside on the streets.
