Former India Test cricketer and state cabinet minister Chetan Chauhan's political innings was longer than cricket. Played 12 years for Team India in Test cricket as an opener on many grounds. Chetan Chauhan was fielded by the BJP in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections in Amroha parliamentary constituency after turning from a cricket pitch to a political pitch. Changing his traditional political stance in the year 2017, he tried his hand in the assembly elections. He became a cabinet minister in the state government after winning the election from Naugawa assembly seat in Amroha district. He was the first Sports Minister in the UP Government, while later took over the responsibility of Home Guard Minister.

Earlier, Chetan Chauhan, who made his cricket debut for Team India against New Zealand in September 1969, left the cricket ground on 13 April 1981 after playing a Test against New Zealand. In his nearly 12-year cricket innings, he does not forget to be an opener of Team India for a long time and miss a century even after crossing the 90-run mark several times.
