Musical legend Pandit Jasraj passes away at 90

He had turned 90 in January this year.

Legendary Indian vocalist Pandit Jasraj passed away in New Jersey, USA on Monday. His daughter Durga Jasraj unveiled the news of his death. According to reports, the late singer died because of cardiac arrest. He belonged to Mewati Gharana. 

Jasraj who turned 90 in January this year was recipient of many prestigious awards including Sumitra Charat Ram Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marwar Sangeet Ratna Award and honours Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan to name a few.

Born in Haryana, Jasraj's father introduced him to vocal music. His musical career has spanned over 80 years. His classical and semi-classical vocals have turned into albums and movie soundtracks. He spread music across countries like India, Canada and the US through teaching.
