After the 73-day Doklam dispute in 2017, a new decisive army Suki was deployed for operational operations, which is still not taking any action due to authoritarian hurdles. Sources said that the approval process of the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy), the financial side of the Ministry of Defense, has slowed down the approval process.

However, the Army had raised the issue with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh that the operational requirements and revenue neutrality proposal were being hampered even though it did not require any financial aspect and additional troops. According to the source, the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) has been created to replace a lieutenant general's post.

According to the plan, the powers that the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) would have under this post include Director-General of Military Operations, Military Intelligence, Operational Logistics, Planning, and War Notice. These powers would come to the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) in any military headquarters.

During the main border dispute, 13 lakh soldiers are being run on behalf of the major operations, planning and logistics will ensure coordination in an institutional manner. The need for a Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) post was felt when there was a long dispute over the Doklam border in 2017.

The Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) Post is one of the four studies recommended in the year 2018 as part of the reconstruction and appreciation of the Army Headquarters. The main objective of these studies was to transform the entire army into a genius.

Reconstruction of the army's headquarters meant shifting 206 officers, which would include three Major Generals, eight Brigadiers, nine Colonels, and 186 Lectant Colonels and Majors. Apart from this, the Army has adopted the position of Directorate of National Rifles. The National Rifle works for operations in Jammu and Kashmir and special counter-insurgency in the Northern Command in Udhampur.
