NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), scheduled to be held in September 2020, after the National Testing Agency assures the court that all necessary precautions will be taken in view of Covid-19 pandemic. The apex court further said that
the postponement of JEE Main and NEET UG exam will put the career of students in peril.
The bench also said that it has taken into the record the submission of the Solicitor General that exams will be held with adequate precautions. Dismissing the plea, the bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra observed that the career of students cannot be put under jeopardy for long. "Life cannot be stopped. We have to move ahead with all safeguards and all... Are you (students) ready to waste one whole year?" Justice Mishra said.
The plea was filed by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava on behalf of 11 students belonging to 11 states on August 6, 2020. The petitioners had urged the court to direct the Centre to hold JEE and NEET examinations only after normalcy is restored in the country.
The National Testing Agency has scheduled to conduct engineering and medical entrance examinations in September. According to the notice released by NTA on July 3, the NEET UG examination will be conducted on September 13 and the JEE Main will commence on September 1 and conclude on 6, 2020.
NTA is expected to release the admit card for NEET-UG and JEE Main through its official website.
