British nurse swaps scrubs for tiaras to take a break from crazy work schedule
This staff nurse has decided to temporarily switch roles to win the prestigious crown of Miss England 2020.
Lizzy Willis who works in the Intensive care unit, after traumatic few months of sleepless nights has decided to take a break and try her luck to be the next beauty queen.
Lizzy started off her career just before the pandemic struck and has been tirelessly working round the clock. Speaking to a source she said, “It has been the busiest and craziest time of my life, definitely in my career. I only just started when this first kicked off. I've been talking a lot with my family about what's going on because they're also in the medical profession, so I know they can really relate to how busy and how crazy it is.”
While struggling to sleep after an extremely tiring night shift of treating Covid patients, she scrolled through some articles and found inspiration from the reigning Miss England 2019 Bhasha Mukherjee, a doctor by profession who took a break to fulfill her dream to be a beauty queen. “I just thought, ‘Oh I could do that’. I had a look at the website and just decided to send in an application and managed to make it to the semis,” she exclaimed.
With the ongoing global pandemic most national and international pageants are being conducted virtually, where contestants will not meet each other or the judges in person, but they will all connect virtually through social media platforms. This year the aspirants will have a tough time putting themselves out there through just a small virtual window.
Sharing her experience about the virtual pageant Lizzy said, “The remote nature of it (pageant) has definitely made it very weird. We had a trial run the other day and it was quite interesting seeing everyone up on the screen. I guess when you're in person you kind of have a lot more freedom with your body language and how you present yourself and what you wear and things.”
