Unearthing yet another case of food delivery personnel making a quick buck on the side during the lockdown period by delivering ganja, a special team from the city police arrested a gang of three that supplied the narcotic and also liquor. These are packed like food, and are delivered at the doorsteps of those ordering for it over phone.

A special team formed by the T Nagar Deputy Commissioner first secured K Muthupandi (23) of Nesapakkam, a food delivery person, from MGR Nagar on Friday. During detailed investigation, he revealed the other two part of the network - Bhaskar of Maduravoyal and C Sathish (20) of Nesapakam, a college student. Investigation revealed that Bhaskar smuggled the liquor and ganja from Vellore and gave them to him and Sathish to sell them to the clients.
“They delivered the liquor and ganja packed like food to those who make orders on phone,” said police. All three were arrested, and two two-wheelers, 380 grams of ganja and 10 liquor bottles were seized from them. In another case involving youngsters, the Neelankarai police secured two persons who were heading for a friend’s birthday in the zero hours of Saturday on a two-wheeler. When they searched the vehicle, the team found 36 sachets of ganja, each weighing about 10 gram. They were identified as V Hemanth (26) of Vettuvankani, an LLB student, and C Sathish (28), who works at a private bank in T Nagar. The bike and Rs 8,000 were also seized from them.
Meanwhile, a prohibition enforcement team of T Nagar secured man in Virugambakkam and seized 1.1 kg ganja from him. The accused, C Sakthivel (20) of Ambattur, was secured near Chinmaya Nagar bridge on Friday evening based on a tip-off. He was handed over to Virugambakkam police. All five persons were remanded in judicial custody.
