
Coronavirus India Updates: Death Toll Nears 50,000 As Cases Rise Unabated
Coronavirus cases in India continue to race ahead, with over a lakh new infections added every two days in the world’s third-worst affected country.
India added 63,490 cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to nearly 26 lakh, according to the health ministry’s update as of 8:00 am on Aug. 16. This includes nearly 50,000 deaths and more than 18 lakh patients who have recovered.
The country has reported over 60,000 cases per day for over a weak now.

Coronavirus Global Update
Australia said it’s close to reaching a deal to produce a coronavirus vaccine, as the country struggles to contain spiraling infections in Victoria, a state that has seen renewed lockdown measures. Health Minister Greg Hunt said the government is in advanced negotiations with different companies. Victoria state reported 279 new infections in the past 24 hours and 16 deaths.
In the U.S., virus deaths in California rose at an above-average pace and Florida reported more than 200 fatalities for the fourth day this week, with daily U.S. cases increasing by more than 60,000 for the first time this month, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University and Bloomberg. China reported 19 new cases for Saturday, and South Korea confirmed 279 more.
The SARS-CoV-2 has now infected nearly 21.4 million people globally with the death toll at 7,68,900.
