Several Red Sox players carried hitting streaks into Sunday night’s matchup with the Yankees.

Jonathan Arauz was 9-for-17 during his five-gamer, earning a start at second base against left-hander J.A. Happ. The switch-hitter and Rule 5 pick from the Astros has put an 0-for-10 start to life in the big leagues behind him.

Arauz came into the lineup in place of Jose Peraza, who has a sore right knee. Peraza took a line drive from Brandon Lowe off his lower half during Thursday’s 17-8 loss against the Rays. The infielder was pressed into service on the pitcher’s mound and ultimately was credited with a painful 1-3 putout against Lowe, as the ball ricocheted all the way to Michael Chavis at first base.

"I did ask him after the game how his knee was and he said it was a little sore," Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said. "I think that’s some of it. Then just Arauz is swinging the bat well, so get him back in there."

Arauz was one of six different Boston players in Sunday’s lineup on at least a three-game hitting streak. Chavis, Kevin Plawecki and Alex Verdugo were all riding six-gamers while Kevin Pillar had hit in four straight. Rafael Devers enjoyed a two-hit night on Saturday and had hit in three consecutive contests.

"Some of the guys are starting to swing a little bit better," Roenicke said. "That’s encouraging. I think if we can just focus as a staff on the things we’re doing better and try to get everyone better then we’ll end up winning more games."
