Sai Life Sciences opens new research & tech centre at Genome Valley
Sai Life Sciences MD &CEO Krishna Kanumuri said the philosophy behind building the new facility was to create what their global innovator partners expect in their inhouse capabilities.

HYDERABAD: City-based contract research organisation Sai Life Sciences Ltd on Saturday announced the expansion of its research & development capacities with the commissioning of its new research and technology centre at Genome Valley.
The new centre marks the completion of phase-I of the company’s $150 million (over Rs 1000 crore) investment committment under its Sai Nxt initiative that is aimed at expanding and upgrading its R&D and manufacturing facilities and inducting top-notch global scientific talent as part of its vision to support its global innovator partners bring 25 new medicines to life by 2025, the company said.
The company said the new R&T centre will be at the centre of the company’s R&D capabilities and will play a pivotal role in accelerating the discovery and development of new drugs.
Spread over 83000 sq ft, the new centre is located next to its existing R&D centre and is equipped with facilities such as 250 fume hoods, intelligent lab design, satellite analytical testing, process safety lab and collaborative works spaces, among others.
Sai Life Sciences, which works with global innovator pharma companies, has opened new R&D sites in USA and UK as well over the past year.
Inaugurating the facility, Telangana industries & IT minister KT Rama Rao called it a matter of pride that Hyderabad is emerging as an innovation hub helping over 1,000 global innovators improve healthcare and R&D. “Sai Life Sciences’ expansion in Hyderabad is testimony to Hyderabad’s growing R&D prowess and extraordinary talent pool,” he said.

On the occasion, KTR also laid the foundation stone for Genopolis, a multi-tenanted laboratory and manufacturing space for lifesciences and pharma companies at Genome Valley.
Genopolis, which is designed to support innovation programmes and provide an integrated ecosystem of collaborative facilities and infrastructure solutions to Indian and multinational companies, will also house the expansion campuses of CROs like Yapan Bio and Laxai Life Sciences. Apart from these, Genome Valley Research Platform (GVRP) Private Limited and CoLabs will also be setting up their facility in Genopolis.
