Miyawaki forestation: Sivakasi engineering college plants 12,000 saplings on Independence Day

MADURAI: An engineering college at Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu on Saturday planted 12,000 saplings on the campus, in the Miyawaki method, to mark the Independence Day. As per the Miyawaki method, saplings are planted in a dense manner.
The plantation drive was organised by Mepco Schlenk Engineering College and its alumni association.
The 12, saplings include more than 100 varieties of species.
College principal Dr S Arivazhagan said forestation was finally possible after two years with the support and efforts by all, including chapters of alumni association, faculty, staff and students.
The principal added that Miyawaki technique grows trees 10 times faster and denser. It is a unique technology proven worldwide irrespective of soil and climatic conditions.
