Coimbatore: The city police will deploy 950 police personnel in view of the Independence Day celebration on Saturday.
The celebration will be held at the VOC Park ground here at 8.50am. Coimbatore collector K Rajamani will hoist the national flag and accept the guard of honour.
The city police had taken over the VOC Park ground five days ago. Sniffer dog Sindhu was pressed into service on Friday evening and a bomb detection and disposal squad checked the ground.
Cultural programmes conducted by school and college students will not be held this year. Public won’t be allowed to participate in the celebration, during which a section of Covid-19 frontline workers will be honoured by the collector.
“As many as 50 bureaucrats will participate in the celebration,” said an official. TNN
