Representtaive ImageCHENNAI: A conman diverted the attention of a 45-year-old woman and escaped with her one-sovereign gold jewellery worth Rs 40,000 at Pondy Bazaar.
The woman, Panchavarnam, of Ramapuram, came looking for a house keeping job, when a 50-year-old man approached her and took her on the bike promising a job.
He told her that he would need her photograph for the job and asked her to remove the gold jewellery to make her look poor. He took the jewellery and asked her to wait at a building and vanished.
Based on a complaint police collected CCTV footage from the locality and have launched a search for the man. Police said the man kept following the woman who came looking for a job for over week as she was denied job everywhere due to lockdown. “People still fall prey to such tactics though we created awareness on such conmen. They should not hand over valuables to any stranger,” said an investigating officer.
