THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala reported 1,608 new active cases of Covid-19 on Saturday.
Health minister K K Shailaja said that 1,409 persons were infected through contact and the contact source of 112 was unknown. 74 of the infected have returned from overseas and 90 from other states. At the same time, 803 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered.
Seven deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid. Judy (69), Lakshmikutty (69) and Ravi (58) from Thiruvananthapuram, Philomina (70) from Kollam, Sati Vasudevan (64) and M D Devassy (75) from Ernakulam and Aziz D'Souza (81) of Kasaragod were the deceased. This brings the Covid-related death toll in the state to 146.
The district-wise figures of the positive cases are 362 persons in Malappuram, 321 from Thiruvananthapuram, 151 in Kozhikode, 118 from Alappuzha, 106 in Ernakulam, 91 from Kollam, 85 in Thrissur, 81 from Kasargod, 74 in Palakkad, 52 from Kannur, 49 in Pathanamthitta, 48 from Wayanad, 39 in Kottayam and 31 from Idukki.
The details of the locally transmitted cases are 313 in Thiruvananthapuram, 307 in Malappuram, 134 in Kozhikode, 106 in Alappuzha, 99 in Ernakulam, 86 in Kollam, 77 in Thrissur, 71 in Kasaragod, 49 in Palakkad, 47 in Kannur, 40 from Wayanad, 33 from Kottayam, 31 from Pathanamthitta and 16 from Idukki.
As many as 31 healthcare workers and four INHS personnel were also among those infected by Coronavirus.
Till now, 27,779 persons have been freed from Covid-19 and 14,891 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the state.
As many as 1,60,169 people under observation across the state, 1,46,811 are under home or institutional quarantine and 13,358 are in hospitals. 1,859 persons were admitted to the hospital today.
In the last lat 24 hours, 32,108 samples were tested. A total of 11,54,365 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 9,246 samples are yet to be announced. 1,47,640 samples were collected from high exposure groups as part of the Sentinel Surveillance and the results of 2,338 samples are awaited.
